A small practice, on purpose
The average medication check lasts 15 minutes. Yours won’t.
Too much of mental healthcare runs on a stopwatch — a quick refill, a rating scale, out the door. Here, the schedule is built around listening, because the right medication starts with what you say, not just a checklist.
-
Visits that don’t watch the clock
New evaluations get a full 60 minutes; follow-ups get 30. If something else comes up mid-visit, we talk about it.
-
The same clinician, every time
You’ll always see your own nurse practitioner — not whoever happens to be free that day.
-
Answers between visits
Call or message the office with questions about side effects or refills, and hear back the same business day from a person who knows your chart.
What we treat
Medication management for the conditions that shape your days.
Not sure whether medication management is what you need? Send us a note — we’ll tell you honestly, and point you to a therapist or another level of care if that’s the better fit.
-
Anxiety disorders
Generalized anxiety, panic, and social anxiety. Careful diagnosis first, then medication that quiets the noise without dulling you.
-
Depression
From a first diagnosis to treatment-resistant cases: thoughtful medication trials, dose changes explained, progress actually tracked.
-
ADHD
Evaluation and ongoing management — stimulant and non-stimulant options, with honest conversation about the trade-offs of each.
-
Bipolar & mood disorders
Steady, relationship-based management: mood stabilizers reviewed at every visit, and early warning signs caught early.
-
PTSD & trauma
Medication that makes the rest of healing possible — calmer sleep, fewer triggers — alongside referrals to trauma therapists.
-
Insomnia & sleep
When sleep is the problem — or the side effect. Short-term relief, long-term plans, and honest talk about dependence.
Meet your nurse practitioner
Claudia Amador, PMHNP
Claudia is a psychiatric–mental health nurse practitioner who built her Victoria practice around the thing busy clinics rarely offer: time. Her visits are conversations, not checklists — how you’re sleeping, what’s changed, and what your medication is actually doing for you.
She believes the right prescription starts with the right diagnosis, reviews every medication at every visit, and isn’t shy about simplifying a regimen that’s grown complicated over the years. When therapy, labs, or another level of care would help, she says so — and helps you get there.

Call, or send the request form below. We hold new-patient slots every week, so you’re usually seen within a few days — not next quarter.
-
Tell us your story
Intake forms arrive by email so visit time isn’t spent on paperwork. Your first appointment is a full hour: history, symptoms, past medications, goals.
-
Leave with a plan
You’ll walk out with a written plan — what we’re starting or changing, why, what to watch for, and when we’ll check in.
Insurance & payment, in plain English
We work with many major insurance plans and welcome self-pay patients. Coverage for psychiatric care varies from plan to plan, so call before your first visit — we’ll verify your benefits and tell you exactly what to expect, so the first surprise is never a bill.
Questions, answered
Things patients usually ask first
Can a nurse practitioner prescribe psychiatric medication?
Yes. Psychiatric–mental health nurse practitioners evaluate, diagnose, and prescribe medication for mental health conditions. In Texas, PMHNPs work with a collaborating physician — and Claudia will tell you if your care ever needs that second set of eyes.
Do you offer therapy too?
The focus here is medication management, and every visit includes real conversation. For ongoing talk therapy, we refer you to counselors we trust and coordinate care with them so nothing gets lost in between.
What should I bring to a first appointment?
A list of your current medications and doses (or just the bottles), any psychiatric medications you’ve tried before, and previous records if you have them. Missing pieces are fine — we’ll work with what you have.
Do you offer telehealth?
Many follow-ups can happen by video once we’ve established care. New-patient evaluations are typically in person, so a first visit gets the time and attention it deserves.
Do you take my insurance? What does a visit cost?
It depends on your plan. Call the office at (361) 576-9700 before you book and we’ll verify your coverage and go over costs — including self-pay options — so there are no surprises.
